Meeting of Finance Ministers of the «Group of Eight» 

This year Russia is in the chair of the «Group of Eight» (then G8) for the first time. In frame of Russian presidency there were held many intergovernmental meetings and consultations. In particular there were held a meeting of Finance Ministers of the G8in June, 9-10, 2006 in St. Petersburg. 

«Group of Eight» - this is a group of the most economically developed and politically important countries in the world largely determining the main tendencies in the world economics and politics. 

At its regular meetings «Group of Eight» countries produced a coordinated economic and financial politics and considered the most important foreign-policy problems. During the meetings «Group of Eight» countries actually defined the main guidelines for the world economic community. There are the main problems for discussion: questions of energy safety, problems of relations with developing countries including the questions of securing their sustainable development, economic relations of East - West, globalization of world economy, increase of economic growth rate and international trade, macroeconomic management, employment, struggle against terrorism. 

Decisions taken by the «Group of Eight» reflect the vision of the major international economic and foreign-policy problems itself the «Group of Eight» and are issued in the form of the final statement that is the main political document of the summit.

Holding of the meetings in the territory of Russian Federation will allowed Russia to increase the confidence of the participating countries and other group of world powers, international financial and economic organizations, businesses groups, investors and further create a favorable investment climate.

At the meetings of the «Group of Eight» in June, 9-10, 2006 in St. Petersburg there was held a meeting of Finance Ministers. 

The event is extremely significant and important event for Russia, it was taken part the most important international partners of Russia, representatives of official delegations of the parliaments, representatives of the international press. According to this events organization must be held at the highest level and meet international standards of such meetings.

Ministers and delegations of countries participating in the Summit arrived at the airport Pulkovo I and Pulkovo II

Meeting of delegations at the airport 
The building of airport was equipped with an information desk, man on duty presents constantly. Ministers were met by representatives of embassies, were given personal protection and transport. Heads of delegation were escorted by a traffic police car, the car of FSO with the guard. Delegations were welcomed by the assistants of delegations and were accompanied to minibus, were given branded badges, information brochures.

Accommodation
Ministers and delegations are located in the Grand Hotel Europe

Information desk of the Summit was located in the lobby at the hotel entrance for the convenience of delegations. All delegations were addressed to the information desk for assistance in the event, including: 
• Issuance of badges to members of delegations
• Information brochures of delegates
• Order Transport
• Contact with representatives of the embassies
• Information about the conference rooms
• Booking of rooms for bilateral meetings of deputy ministers and su-sherps
• Information about the employment timetable of rooms
• Information on the program of meeting
• Communication with assistants of delegations
• Efficient resolution of other organizational tasks

In the halls of "Chaikovskiy" and "Gorkiy" were organized offices equipped with computers and copier machines, office accessories.
 
June, 8-9 in 2006 

In the 8th and 9th of June in the hall "Dostoevskiy" there were held meetings of financial su-sherps who worked on the preparation of the content of the meeting of Ministers. 

In the 9th of June at the halls of "Biljiardnaja", "Musejnaja", "Pushkin" there were held bilateral meetings of Ministers. Also in the 9th of June there were held a joint press conference of Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin and World Bank President Paul Vulfovets. 

Cultural Program. 
At the evening guests of Meetings were invited to the Mariinskij Theater on the ballet "Swan Lake". Kudrin A.L. and his wife greeted the guests there was set a table for a light buffet 
On finishing of the performance the Ministers and their spouses were invited to dinner at the restaurant «Bellini». Guests were presented with memorable gifts. 

At the dinner there was also attended by Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matvienko, artists of the Mariinsky Theater. From the balcony of the restaurant guests watched the festive fireworks. 

June 10, 2006 

In the 10th of June in the Mikhailovskij Castle there was held a meeting of Finance Ministers of the «Group of Eight» 

In 8.30 the ministers arrived at the place of meeting. There was took place a working lunch with the Finance Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Russia, the USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Japan, Italy, Japan, heads of international financial organizations - the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, the International Energy Agency as well as Ministers and Deputy Ministers of invited countries - Austria, China, South Korea, Nigeria, Australia, Brazil. 

After breakfast there was held a working meeting of Ministers of the «Group of Eight» and international financial organizations. 

At the break of the meeting there was made a formal photo. After the meeting ministers went to the press center where they held a press conference with the participation of Russian and foreign journalists. 

Offices of delegations 
The sessions in specially equipped offices were parallel to the work of delegations. 
Equipment of each office included: 
• Computers with access to Internet
• Telephone lines with international access 
• Faxes 
• Paper and stationery with the symbols of the meeting. 

Copiers are located in the area of general access. 

Press Center 
Ministry of Finance of Russia chose the "Saint Petersburg" hotel as grounds for the press center. In collaboration with PR-agency PREMO in the hotel was held complex of making the facilities of the hotel’s rooms compliance with the level of the Meeting. 

Press center was opened for the accredited press from June,8 to continue to work twenty-four-hour to 23:59 June,10. 

In the hotel’s rooms from the soundproof panels there were constructed 9 rooms for press conferences of all national delegations of the «Group of Eight» and rooms for press conferences of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and the European Union as well. For the main press conference, Finance Minister of RF Alexei Kudrin there was assigned congress hall on more than 500 seats. 

There were prepared the rooms for negotiation for all the delegations, and for all comers to hold separate meetings with the press - the rooms for an interview. 

At the press center there was organized the working area for journalists to 200 seats equipped with laptops with Internet access, international telephone and fax. There was Wi-Fi connection at the press center area. In the recreational area of journalists, buffet and working areas there were installed plasma screens on which in real-time protocol part of the meeting of Finance Ministers in the Mikhailovsky Castle was broadcasted.

It was accredited about 400 Russia and foreign journalists. In the working days of the press center accredited journalists received the packet of a journalist with all the necessary information about the meeting of Finance Ministers and the work of the press center, memorial gifts.

June, 10 were held press conferences and informal meetings with the press of following countries: Russia, Germany, France, USA, Italy, Canada and the European Union and the IMF. On the results of the meeting of Finance Ministers of the «Group of Eight» was extended an official communiqué. In just three days of work the press-center was visited by several hundred journalists, more than 50% of them came from other countries.

Cultural Programme
During the main meeting Ministers’ spouses and delegations of invited countries visited an excursion to the Hermitage and St. Isaac's Cathedral.
